Synopsis

Route 66 is a famous landmark in American History. It is here that our story begins just south of Springer Colorado. Just before dusk a large construction water truck is humming down the road. Normally State Officer Carl Osborne, wouldn't bother even notice the truck on the highway since this highway is heavily traveled by Large vehicles. But something was bugging him about this one and he noticed a leak water from the rear water nozzle. Carl had been covering for his friend Joe who had taken a day off to spend with his wife. Carl flashed his lights and hit the siren a few times to signal the truck to pull over. Carl had done these routine stops hundreds of times before and this seemed nothing out of the ordinary, in fact just as the truck pulled over Carl, was calling it in while he was thinking of his wife and two children, they were all going to go that night to get a bucket of KFC and watch a movie at home. Suddenly Carl felt a sharp pain in his right shoulder and then he heard the blast of bullets ripping through the windshield of his cruiser. For a moment all Carl could think about was his wife and kids and uttered "Please God take care of them". In all, fifteen bullets ripped through the front windshield from a semi-automatic. Just as Carl managed to get the words "Officer Down" over his radio he saw the assailant, Scott Tolman fire another full clip into the cruiser from the driver's door. As soon as Scott had unloaded his clip he ran back to the water truck "Go, Go, Go" he shouted. "There's no backing out now!" Chaos erupted as another passenger in the truck Jonathon Klive shouted "This wasn't the plan! No one was supposed to get shot, I want out!" The third assailant Mason Howard yells back "Sit down and shut up, were in too deep to back out now. Let's get the hell out of here". Hell was right because on that fateful day they began a journey that would lead two of them to the depths of Hell.

All in all, they end up killing 2 more cops before they make their escape. No one knew why or what they intended to do, but everyone knew they had killed 3 cops in cold blood. A nationwide manhunt went out for them and Wells got his wish, a collar that would net him half a million dollars. These guys were wanted in the worst way. Wells was at first outraged at the deaths of these cops. Though he didn't know them, he knew several others like them and it was like someone killing a family member. Wells went to work on the case. No sooner had he begun to make inroads than one by one the killers were being found: DEAD. Only one was on the loose now and Wells had gotten to know the family of the killer. Something didn't ring true to the circumstances surrounding their deaths to Wells. At first it didn't matter because of heinous crimes they committed but his conscious started gnawing at him and he started researching the way the bodies were found and discovered so many inaccuracies with the police reports and in one incident the body of Howard was found in a seated position in a location Wells had been to and knew that the body must've been planted there. He also began to know the family of Tolman, the only one of the three who survived. He began to realize that maybe, just maybe it started out as a prank that somehow got out of hand when they panicked. It did have a fatal consequence nevertheless. Wells' began to sympathize with the families of the dead, both the cops and the killers. Wells was torn between what he was supposed to do and what he felt compelled to do. His sense of values and morals would soon be tested as he would come upon a situation in life where no choice is a good choice and his own soul would hang in the balance.
